Awesome Grid-Iron Match Up For Prince George’s Classic

MEAC PRE-SEASON POLL RANKS MSU #4 AND NC A&T #5

Three Day Celebration of Sports, Culture & Community to
Honor Historically Black Colleges & Universities

Flip a coin in the air. This evenly matched competition between Morgan State University and North Carolina A&T will keep the fans guessing at the Second Annual Prince George’s Classic on Saturday, October 8, 2005. This summer, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference ranked the Morgan State Bears # 4 in both the head coach and media polls. North Carolina A&T Aggies were predicted #5 and #7 by coaches and media, respectively. Despite, Morgan picked as favorites, the Aggies are not worried. The last two times the Aggies won the MEAC crown – 1999 and 2003 – they were picked sixth in the preseason.
“After a tough selection process, we chose two outstanding teams and built a fantastic schedule of cultural and community events, including the second Battle of the Bands, the Black College Expo, the Welcome Reception and concerts,” said Mike Little, President of the Prince George’s Classic. “The game between Morgan State and North Carolina A&T will be an exciting climax to a fun-filled three day celebration for the entire family.”

Morgan State University Bears, led by head coach Donald Hill-Eley, had five players selected to the all-conference first team. Senior wide receiver Kelvin Dickens (Bowie, Md) leads another explosive Bear offense. Joining Dickens on the first-team is junior guard Curtis Bradley (Orangeburg, S.C.) and senior tight-end Chris Cash (Glendale, Md.) Senior running back Jason Jackson (Oxon Hill, Md.) was the sole second team member for Morgan State. Senior strong safety Larry “Choo Choo” Davis (Fork Union, Va.) returns as a leader in the Bears secondary and was also selected to the Preseason All-MEAC First-Team. They finished last year with 5-6 season.

The North Carolina A&T Aggies, led by head coach George Small are coming off of an injury-plagued 3-8 season. However, N.C. A&T is healthy, and returns eight starters on defense and seven starters on offense. Two Aggies are expected to be the best at their respective positions. Senior Rickie Lewis, a 2004 first-team All-MEAC defensive end, was selected preseason first-team All-MEAC along with senior middle linebacker Chamar Milton. Senior left guard Chris Gates was selected to the second team.
Local and state officials, community members, college alumni and visitors from the entire east coast will join the Prince George’s Black Chamber of Commerce (PGBCC), for The Second Annual Prince George’s Classic, see attached schedule of the entertainment line up.
